And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

The Senior Center is governed by an Executive Board of Directors, who meets quarterly; the Board consists of seven persons with The Rector as President.

Over the past 3 years, we have focused on Health Wellness & General Care for the elderly.

In 2008 and in conjunction with Downstate University Hospital St. Gabriel’s Senior Center hosted a twelve week Workshop & Certificate Program for Home Health Aides, with special focus on how to aide and assist patients in wheelchairs, those with canes going up and down stairways, assistance in feeding etc., we are also a recommended & referral site from Kings County Hospital as Social Model Program. This referral is to aide those senior citizens suffering from loneliness and depression to attend our program and become integrated into the everyday socialization.

In 2009 with IPRO we hosted a 14 week Diabetic Workshop for the Senior Center and the community at large.  This workshop graduated 32 graduates combination of Senior Center members and community residents.  We are a NYC 311 Provider of Case Assistance in applications for (SCRIE) Senior Citizens Rent Increase Exemption, Medicaid and the Food Stamps Program.

In 2010 The Senior Center forged alliances with organizations in the Community such as Susan Smith McKinney Nursing & Rehabilitation as a referral for Alzheimer’s & Dementia persons, Downstate University for its study focus on (B-HIP)  Brooklyn Healthcare Improvement Project on how to better determine the needs of the community through its Medicaid, Medicare, minor emergencies and other such services.  The NYC Department for the Aging installed an elevator on the premises to facilitate the Center Members.

This elevator will serve a dual purpose for both the Senior Center and the Church in the near future as it moves forward with the construction for expansion.

As our Community grows our goal and mission is to establish St. Gabriel’s Senior Center as a Resource and Outreach Provider for variety services not only in the community, but throughout Brooklyn with possible services to facilitate a (NORCS) Naturally Occurring Residence Community for Seniors.
